The most convenient airport for Turunç is Dalaman (DLM)
about 120 km away – approximately 1¾ hours by road.
Flights to Dalaman from the UK take about four hours but the airport is surprisingly efficient and you can easily be on the road within 30’ of landing.
Transfers by taxi
or people-carrier can be arranged and cost ~£100 (2011) – this covers both
inbound and return transfer journeys. Alternatively,
many airlines offer a coach transfer service - certainly to Marmaris and
often all the way to Turunç - for ~£25 per person (2009) return. We have not
tried this option ourselves but reports from friends
indicate that it does work. It will probably take slightly longer because of drop offs
en-route and will certainly drop you in the village rather than at the apartment door.
From the village it is a £3 taxi ride and they run
24/7.
Several charter airlines fly into Dalaman from a number of UK airports.
Depending when you want to fly, what time of the day (or night) the flights
leave, how long you want to stay and crucially how far
ahead you book flights cost between £150 and £300 per person. A reasonable
budget would be around £200 per person.
In general, these charter flights only operate April through October.
However, in recent years a number of airlines have stared
to operate year-round, if somewhat limited, schedules to
Dalaman from major UK airports like Gatwick, Stanstead and Manchester.
Don’t forget, you will need an entry visa for your stay in Turkey. These are
purchased at the airport on arrival and last three months. You will need one
£10 note for every member of the party – the
process in itself is quite amusing! Also, rather bizarrely, you can purchase
duty-free items after you collect your bags and before you leave the
airport! There is a limit, but the two rather-bored guards
at the exit seem totally unconcerned.
