As
soon as Turunç comes into sight via the lofty heights of the winding
mountain road that threads its way from Marmaris down into the bay, you
instinctively know this is going to be a special holiday.
Turunç retains much of its quaint village character and the enclosed sweep of the bay, with its pebble beach at one end and sand the other, offers all you would require. Turunç is the proud holder of the Blue Ribband - an annual award for the cleanest sea water and beaches in Turkey.
Turunç is an ideal choice for couples and families with young children. Literally at the end of the road, Turunç experiences very little traffic and with its village atmosphere you will feel comfortable allowing your children to spread their wings a little. The beach has a shallow rake, making swimming easy and safe. In addition to this, Turunç enjoys a wide array of water-sport activities including windsurfing, water-skiing, speedboat hire and scuba diving.
Although a few late night music bars do exist it is fair to say that nightlife in Turunç is better described as more laid back than lively! A wide selection of shops is located in the main street - which is pedestrianised each evening – and a good range of waterside restaurants and bars provide, overall, a lovely relaxed nightlife. The choice of restaurants is excellent, some of which offer wonderful Turkish cuisine and others a slightly more expansive menu – more than enough to satisfy the most prolific appetite on a two week holiday!
Turunç is well placed for exploration. Peaceful Amos and Kumlubük Bays may be reached by boat, taxi or – for the more energetic – on foot, via the coastal road. The walk from Turunç to Amos Bay takes about half an hour, with Kumlubük, about 30 minutes further on. Kumlubük consists of two sweeping bays of predominantly shingle beach, mixed with some sand. Dotted along the waterfront are several restaurants which cater for visitors from Marmaris at lunchtime and passing yachts in the evening. Trips abound from Turunç, with boat trips to Dalyan and many other bays, road trips into the mountains and a two day trip to Ephesus . Closer to home is the large, mainstream resort of Marmaris and it’s little (but growing) sister - Içmeler. It's pleasant to have Marmaris at arm’s length – only fifty minutes away on an hourly boat service from Turunç – not so far that you can't pop over to explore the harbour and bazaar before hurrying back to the sanctuary of Turunç!
