Merhaba (hi there!)
When we were planning our first holiday together (back in 2001), we
were looking for something really special. The only criteria we had
were that it should be warm, relaxing, accessible but – above all –
different.
Try pitching this to the average travel agent most of whom seemed to be under 20 and whose experience of foreign travel appeared to be a weekend in Llandudno!
By a huge stoke of luck, we happened across the manager of an independent travel agency who had spent a recent holiday in Marmaris (Turkey) and who had taken a day trip to a little nearby village called Turunç ( the ‘ç’ is said ‘ch’ by the way). With his perseverance, we arranged a two-week stay through Tapestry Holidays – an excellent if expensive holiday company who, at the time, were the only UK operator that featured this strange-sounding location.
We fell in love with Turunç and, despite trying other locations, kept going back. Finally in 2004 (having had the opportunity but "wimped out" the previous year) we bought our own apartment. Whether this will just be a holiday home or something more permanent we don’t know – we’ve always warned our kids that the first they will know is when the ‘change of address’ card comes through their letterbox. For now, it gives us the chance to experience this truly lovely and relatively unspoiled village more or less when we want. In this website, we hope to convey something of the sense of affection we have for Turkey and Turunç.
